Places To Visit In Penang – Heritage Area, Street Art

nyonya, recipe, easy, Chinese, Straits bornHello again,

There are so many things to do and to visit in Penang. So today we decided to visit George Town again. We went to the old part of George Town.  We went to the Love Lane, Armenian Street, Beach Street and Chulia Street Area. There are many places to see and do in this area.

Street Art:

It is located in various spots. So you have to walk around to find them. The paintings were commissioned  in 2012. Penang’s municipal council hired London-trained Lithuanian artist, Ernest Zacharevic and charged him with breathing new life into some of the atmospheric Chinese shop-houses around the inner city.  The result is an eclectic mix of media. His paintings are witty, and fascinating with murals as well as utilising real objects. So some of the images are 2D combined with 3D (actual objects).  The murals depict the lives in this area from the past. How you view his work is up to your interpretation and it is  a refreshing approach. The street art has transformed the old part of George Town into a busy area full of tourists all year round. Narrow streets and alley ways are now bustling with tourists.

New additions are being made to the original wall art.

I tried tracing down some of the spots.

Love Me Like Your Fortune Cat  is one of the murals painted by ASA, Artists for Stray Animals, in George Town, Penang. Fortune cats are cat dolls that are often found in Japanese and Taiwanese restaurants, near the cashier.

A cat or a bicycle?

As you can see, the colours are fading. So it would be good if you could visit this place ASAP.

While you are in this vicinity, don’t forget other spots. You can probably spend 2 days and nights here to see all the different attractions. And then there are tons of places to visit and partake in their activities across the Island and over to Province Wellesley aka the main land.

You can ride a trishaw or rent a trishaw or bicycle or a motorbike to get around. There are many small boutique hotels and old shops that are retrofitted and are now flourishing businesses.

This is for now, as I am going to the 3D Museum next.

Please like and share this post so that it will motivate me to write more.

Have a great day.
