As I am staying in Subang, and we are not travelling to Penang until the first day of Chinese New Year, we are having our reunion dinner here.
There are a few of us, my family and my sister-in-law’s family. We have it in this restaurant Thai Star.
As usual, we have Yee Sang. Then we order some other dishes.
Squid Kerabu – squid salad. Squid is blanched and served with Thai dressing, lemon grass, lime, Chillies, and other herbs.
Fried midin fern – a type of fern fried with belacan, which is shrimp paste and it is hot. This fern originally from East Malaysia, was famous many years ago and was very popular then in the 80’s and early 90’s. Every restaurant will serve this. Then the popularity died down and now it is served in restaurant again.
Prawn Tomyum – spicy hot soup. Thailand’s famous hot soup!
Thai style steamed chicken. Village chicken is like free-range chicken where it is reared with lots of room to roam.
Fried asparagus with prawns. It is a simple dish.
Thai spring onion omelette. It is something that I have not come across. I suppose I have been away for many years. It is very simple. Just eggs with spring onions.
Steam pomfret with ginger and garlic. This is nice and the fish is fresh. The fried garlic and ginger bits goes well with the sauce.
I will delve into these dishes when I have the time later. I the mean time, here is the verdict of the Yee Sang.
The dinner is good, with some really lovely dishes like the tom yum and the fish. The yee sang is not exactly nice. I think I am biased as I can make my own. Mine has more vegetables and less of the colourful fried fritters, which contains a fair bit of fat as it is deep fried.
So until the next round, here is wishing you blue skies and everything nice.
Do leave your comment and like and share if you find my post of value .
Cheers,
