Cokodok
Update: I have made a video on this. Click Cokodok to view how to make.
Cokodok or Banana Balls is common snack in Malaysia. It is usually eaten during afternoon tea time with a cup of black coffee or a cup of ‘teh tarik’ 0r ‘pulled tea’. Teh tarik is tea made with sugar, condensed milk and evaporated milk. It is sickly sweet and nevertheless addictive. Teh tarik now available in ‘Mamak’ shops and stalls. Malaysians of all background and races enjoy their ‘Teh Tarik’.
How does the tea gets its name?
Well, it got its name due to the action of the person preparing the tea.
Actually, the tea is poured from one container held in one hand to another container held in the other hand. The purpose of pouring the tea is to cool it so that it can be drunk immediately. The action of pouring the tea has turned into an art form. The sight of the tea being poured into the containers repeatedly give the impression that the tea is being ‘pulled’. Hence the name ”Teh Tarik’ ( tarik means pull in Malay).
Enough about Teh Tarik. More about my Banana Balls!
In early spring, we had such bad weather, that we were house bound, and the school was closed for a day. When things went back to normal, I went to the supermarket and there was this offer on Bananas! I supposed the supermarket was trying to sell off all the over-ripe bananas as people were not able to shop due to the bad weather! So I bought some and made my Banana Balls.
Cokodok is usually served on it own. We buy them from the stalls or make it ourselves at home. Since I am in UK, I am trying to add a bit of splash to my presentation. I have decided to serve it in skewers for a change.
